Island County Ultrasound creates Long lasting memories

OUR STORY
For Kulvinder Kaur, known as KK for short, the journey to her forever home in Coupeville has been long, at times tumultuous, but always an opportunity for self discovery. KK was born and raised in India, and like most Indian girls, entered into an arranged marriage at seventeen. This effectively put an end to her dream of getting an education. A few years later, KK’s husband died in a car accident and she was left financially dependent with two small children to care for. Being in India, she realized that there was no way for her to pursue her own ambitions.
Determined to find a way to improve her situation, and to be financially independent, KK immigrated to the U.S. with her children. The first step was to pursue a cosmetology degree. Once her children were old enough to take care of themselves, KK was able to start her own hair salon in Bellevue, which put her firmly on the path of entrepreneurship.
After running her salon for over 10 years, KK realized that she had other gifts to give and after serious thought, trained as a sonographer (Diagnostic Ultrasound Imaging technician). She also taught ultrasound at Bellevue College in past. A job offer on Whidbey Island brought her to Coupeville and it was love at first sight with the town and the community. KK has found her forever home.
Today, KK’s children are all grown up, and she realized that her entrepreneurial journey has not yet concluded. With Island County Ultrasound, she is bringing her professional expertise directly to the community by offering both diagnostic ultrasound services and wellness screenings, providing accessible, timely imaging that supports patient care and early detection.
At the same time, she continues to create meaningful experiences for families through elective 3D/4D keepsake ultrasound sessions, allowing expectant parents to bond with their baby in a personal and memorable way.
KK has also returned to her passion for teaching. Through hands-on ultrasound training and workshops, she is sharing practical scanning skills with healthcare professionals and learners—skills that can directly impact patient outcomes and, in some cases, save lives.
